Benefits of Stretching...
Flex Time:  What are the benefits of having a regular stretching routine?

Stretching to Reach Your Health Goals

To stretch or not to stretch, this is the question.  By no means is this an attempt to make you an expert in Yoga or sign you up for a gymnastics class, but merely to give you the information you need to make an informed decision about your health.  As an old adage goes, you are only as old as your connective tissue.

As you get older, you naturally lose some of your flexibility if you do not stretch regularly.  Stretching can help your muscles keep their elasticity as you age.  As time passes, you don't have to lose a lot of the flexibility you had when you were younger!  Stretching is a means to improve flexibility, improve blood supply to the muscles, for relaxation, improve posture, alleviate muscle soreness and to help prevent an injury.  There are many questions that you may have, some of which may include --

Q:  Does stretching really help?

A:  Absolutely.  It increases flexibility and blood flow to fatigued muscles, which can result in fewer injuries.

Q:  Can everyone participate in a stretching program?

A:  If you are currently injured or experiencing joint or muscle pain, a recommendation by a physician prior to participating in any exercise program should be obtained.

Q:  Does Boeing offer a stretching program?

A:  Yes.  However, programs can vary at each site.

Q:  How can I get information about this program?

A:  Contact your local SHEA department, or your health and fitness center for details.

Q:  When would I perform these stretches?

A:  Preferably at the start of each shift, then periodically throughout the day.

Q:  What if my work group doesn't use the stretching program?

A:  Why not take the initiative and ask your manager about starting one.

A stretching program is one part of a comprehensive effort to ensure the wellness and safety of everyone.  To effectively reduce musculoskeletal disorders, employees need adequate training and education, well-designed work areas and processes, and self-responsibility for personal health and fitness.

Rally your team together to start off your day right - with stretching.
